Located in an undiscovered part of the Caribbean, just off the coast of Nicaragua and covering 11 acres, this beautiful unspoilt island accommodates a maximum of eight adults and two children and was developed in complete harmony with nature and the local communities. This is truly the place to relax, kick off your shoes and become one with nature.

The accommodation



There are just 4 beachfront suites, each with a king size bed and en-suite bathroom with semi al fresco shower, a private veranda and secluded beachfront palapas with hammock and couch. The master suite is the largest of the four with a sitting area and extra bed suitable for two children

There are two restaurants on the island; a casual beachside lunch area and a more formal evening dining restaurant

Things to do on your doorstep



Rum Tasting - enjoy a journey through the tastes and history of rum in Nicaragua and the Caribbean



Between March and October, the island is a nesting site for the endangered Hawksbill Turtle. Usually this happens at night and you can ask the staff to wake you to watch as the females appear on land to nest and lay 60-150 eggs at a time



Snorkel along the reefs that lie just below the waterline around the island – an abundance of brightly coloured tropical fish awaits



Take to the water on a paddle board and savour the beautiful island views as you balance



Try some kayaking around the island or further afield. The warm and tranquil, crystal-clear waters that surround Calala are perfect for sea-going adventures. Record your fastest time to kayak around the island and join the coveted leader board



Gaze at the myriad of stars in the night sky on the beach or pier away from all artificial light. Ask the staff to power down the whole island for a truly memorable experience

Take a dip in the sea from one of the beaches on the island

Location

Calala Island is one of the Pearl Cays, a string of small islands located off the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua. The journey to Calala involves a domestic flight from Managua to Bluefields (approximately 60-90 minutes), followed by a transfer by road to the harbour then a boat ride of 90-120 minutes or so. If you prefer, you can also reach Calala by helicopter in around 80 minutes from Managua. Pearl Lagoon is just 45 minutes away by boat
